However, Rassie Erasmus’ salary has been dragged into the picture, against the backdrop of his big wins, with many trying to connect the dots on his take-home salary.

In 2024, media reports noted that Rassie Erasmus’ take-home salary was £650 000 per annum, which is R1.23 million per month. According to IOL, he was earning a whopping R14.4 million annually in 2024.

His take-home salary made him the second-highest-paid rugby coach after England’s Steve Borthwick.

However, in 2024, he extended his stay with the Springboks through 2031 after winning the Rugby World Cup back-to-back in 2019 and 2023.

After extending his stay with the Springboks, RugbyLAD reported in 2025 that his new, improved contract is now around R20 million a year.

However, the South African Rugby Union (SARU) hasn’t publicly confirmed the news, despite the alleged annual salary also thrusting Rassie Erasmus into the top trends.

With Rassie Erasmus’ rumoured salary, he is arguably the highest-paid rugby coach. According to reports, England’s coach earns around £700 000, which amounts to R15 million.

A RUGBY GENIUS THAT DESERVES MORE

Despite his rumoured salary being around R20 million, rugby fans believe that he should earn more. Against such claims, the publication dives into Rassie Erasmus’ illustrious career as Springboks coach.

In June 2017, Erasmus made headlines after he left Munster to become South Africa’s Director of Rugby, a position that had never been filled at SARU.

A year later, he was named head coach of the Springboks after the sacking of Allister Coetzee in February 20 8. In 2019, he coached the Springboks to a Rugby World Cup triumph in Japan. This was the Boks’ third World Cup win since 2004.

Rassie Erasmus went down in history after winning the 2023 Rugby World Cup. He became one of the few coaches to win the World Cup back-to-back.

In 2024, he made headlines with his impressive record during their end-of-year tour for a second successive season – they were unbeatable. He also now commands a 76%, making him one of the best coaches in the history of the game.
